MTV’s pre-history began in 1977, when Warner Cable (a division of Warner Communications and an ancestor of WASEC, Warner Satellite Entertainment Company) launched the first two-way interactive cable TV system, Qube, in Columbus, Ohio. Throughout its history, MTV has covered global benefit concert series live. For most of July 13, 1985, MTV showed the Live Aid concerts, held in London and Philadelphia and organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for famine relief in Ethiopia. The Birth of MTV Music Television or MTV was a channel that was created by Viacom Media Networks and it was launched on August 1, 1981. The idea of creating specialty channels such as MTV came from a division of Warner Communications called Warner Cable. MTV went on the air with those words, a minute after midnight on Aug. 1, 1981.
